Podoko population demand security post

The men and women of Podoko, a locality situated in the Far North region, marched to the Divisional Officer’s office last August 22nd to table their grievances.

“We are here because we can no longer cope with the insecurity… We do not want to leave our village, please set up a security post.”

The population begged administrative authorities for better security

They complain attacks from Boko Haram assailants have increased, forcing them to run to the mountains for safety.

“Monday this week, two people were killed and 4 others wounded during an attack. This is too much.”

For the past 8 years, Podoko has been the center of 28 Boko Haram attacks, 36 people have been killed and 63 others wounded. The people’s farm products have been seized, livestock taken away and homes destroyed. They have urged authorities to grant them this one wish of having a security post considering the fact that vigilante committees can no longer handle the assailants. The D.O. for Mora has assured them, their plight will be channelled to the right quarters for quick solutions.

Administrative authorities promised to find a quick solution to the problem

This is not the first time, the population in the Far North region is denouncing Boko Haram insurgencies. Earlier this year, those of the Mayo Tsanaga marched to the D.O. and Governor’s offices to complain of growing insecurity. Governor Midjiyawa Bakary gave assurance security will double up but this is yet to be felt by the population.
