PM Dion Ngute campaigns for Biya’s massive victory in SWR

By Princeley Njukang
President Paul Biya is the best choice for the people of the South West Region, Prime Minister Chief Dr. Joseph Dion Ngute has emphasized. He laid this emphasis on September 27, during the regional launch of the CPDM’s campaign in Buea.
According to Dion Ngute, the region would cease to enjoy the privileges and developmental strides it currently has if Biya does not emerge winner of the October 12, 2025 presidential election. He pointed to the fact that the region is currently heavily represented in government and elective houses such as the National Assembly and Senate, as well as developmental projects like the Kumba Gas Plant, as evidence of Biya’s commitment to the growth of the South West Region. “Politics is a game of interest, and President Biya has the interest of the South West Region at heart,” he said.
The PM firmly dismissed claims that the National Oil Refinery, SONARA, is in the process of being transferred. He said the very fact that construction works have begun on parts of the refinery that went up in flames in 2019 is proof that it remains an infrastructure of the region.
The PM promised that more developmental efforts are underway. In particular, he highlighted the Limbe Deep Seaport, saying plans to begin work on it had intensified, as well as the construction of the Bekoko-Idenau road and the development of the Tiko Airport. To the PM, if any person other than Biya is voted, the consequences for the South West Region would be disastrous.
Responding to comments that the Head of State, Natural Candidate of the CPDM, is no longer fit to rule due to his age and related health issues, the PM said such claims were unreasonable. “Those of you who are cocoa farmers, do you cut down a cocoa tree because it is old?” he asked, to chants of “No! No!” He told CPDM supporters and sympathizers that “President Biya has made me his legs, so that where he cannot go, I would go.”
For his part, the Interim Regional Delegate of the CPDM South West Permanent Delegation, Senator Nfor Tabetando, said it was time for the people of the South West to honor the numerous motions of support they had sent to the Head of State, calling on him to stand for President. He said the President had played his part by responding to their call; thus, the ball is now in their court to ensure that he enjoys a resounding victory come Voting Day. The Senator told CPDM elites and members of the campaign committees to leave no stone unturned in making sure that they carry Biya’s New Deal message to all households of the region.
Senator Tabetando warned party members against complacency. “The South West is a stronghold of the CPDM, but we should not sleep on our laurels,” he said, adding, “No two elections are the same.”
His message echoed the core pillar of the party’s campaign strategy: novelty. According to the campaign plan presented by Prof. Elvis Ngole Ngole, Director of the CPDM Academy, social media would be a major component of the party’s strategy as they seek to win young voters. In the announcement of his candidacy, Biya had pledged that if he wins the October 12 elections, the next seven years would be specially dedicated to youth and women. Insiders say his campaign drive will seek to underscore that promise. The campaign, party members say, has been designed to be inclusive and to take a grassroots approach, with a door-to-door strategy prioritized.
