Pinyin Fon calls for unity, peace after brutal killings

The Fon of the Pinyin Clan, HM Kenneth Asobo III, has urged his people to remain united and work towards a safer future for their children. This statement came following the brutal killing of six young men by gunmen dressed in military attire in Pinyin, Santa Subdivision of the North West Region. In a message to his subjects on February 25, the traditional ruler expressed his deepest condolences to the families of the victims and described the grief as immeasurable.
“In light of these devastating events, the traditional corps of the Pinyin land has urgently been convened in council to reflect on a way forward and to explore all avenues for restoring peace and justice to the Pinyin kingdom” the Fon revealed.
He emphasized the importance of unity, stating that the community’s strength lies not in division, but in unity. He urged everyone to remain steadfast and recalled that violence only begets more violence. Fon Asobo advocated for peace, dialogue, and understanding to break the cycle of suffering.
This tragic incident occurred in an area already plagued by separatist violence. Pinyin, like many parts of the North West and South West Regions of Cameroon, has been severely affected. The killing of the six young men on February 23, was allegedly carried out by government forces in the Mamben neighborhood.
Fon Asobo’s call for unity and peace is particularly significant, given the recent events. Just days before the incident, the local population had taken a stand against separatist atrocities, attacking two young men suspected of being separatists.
