Physically challenged people protest against discrimination in Yaounde
Some physically challenged persons have taken to the streets to protest against discrimination and abandonment from the state. They are not far from the Post neighborhood in Yaounde and say they are ready for prosecution for the sake of their rights.
Led by Jean Bonheur, the physically challenged say they have been forgotten by the state. “We need jobs. We have the appropriate education in our various fields but we do not have jobs. We need jobs!” Bonheur says.
Their last protest march was organized on June 27th 2022 in front of the Prime Minister’s office. They had gone there hoping to be heard by the appropriate authorities but 28 of them ended up locked up at the Central police. Jean Bonheur and his team say it is not right that they have to beg in order to have jobs because no adequate bodies have been created by the government to take care of their needs.
