PCRN: Tension disrupts court hearing between Cabral Libii, Robert Kona
By Eratus Ndueh
The first hearing of the lawsuit opposing the founding father of the opposition Cameroon Party for National Reconciliation, PCRN, Robert Kona to Honorable Cabral Libii, on leadership tussle affair took place at the Kaélé magistrate court in Mayo Kani division of the far north region on January 4, 2024.
The court session which was characterized by fueling tension in the air ended with no concrete decision meted after the court hearing was adjourned to February 1, 2024.
The cause of the dispute is the cancellation of the PCRN Congress, held on May 11, 2019, in Guidiguis. Cabral Libii’s lawyers raised the absence of certain crucial points in the case, which justified dismissal. This unexpected postponement provides a thinking opportunity for the internal dynamics of the party and the stakes surrounding the presidency.
Cabral Libii, elected PCRN president in 2019, was attached to this legal battle initiated by Robert Kona. The latter, the founder of the party, contested the election of Cabral Libii and decided to forward the case for justice. While Kona’s lawsuit has triggered the judicial process, the court’s decision remains expected as a crucial step for the party seeking unity.
The brouhaha within the party goes beyond legitimacy, its exacerbation was recently marked by the suspension by the government, of Congress scheduled in Kribi last December 2023.
It remains to be seen how this internal political battle will influence the positioning and stability of the PCRN in the Cameroonian political landscape. The upcoming court decision will be decisive for the leadership of the party and the political future of Cabral Libii. To be continued.
