Buea- Cameroon(CNA) The elective synod of the Presbyterian Church in Cameroon (PCC) opened, November 17 at PC Buea Town. The seventh moderator of the church will be the major outcome of the conclave.
It is presided at by the outgoing PCC Moderator, Rt. Rev Dr Fonki Samuel Forba. The opening church service had in attendance amongst others, sister presbyterian church leaders from Nigeria and Uganda, administrative authorities, a college of pastors, synod delegates and christians of the PCC.
The homily, inspired by Psalm 124:1-6 was themed; “If the Lord was not on our side…” For over twenty minutes, the departing church leader revisited the successes and blessings of his ten year, double mandate as moderator. Fonki regretted that the social media became a tool to destabilize and discredit the church especially during it’s election year.
“The faith of immature christians has been shaken by what they read or saw on the social media. The love and unity we share has been questionable. The social media excesses are deplorable and unacceptable,” he said. Furthering that, the Anglophone Crisis, compounded by the Corona pandemic and rising economic instability had severely affected the church’s activities under his watch.
However, giving thanks to God who he believed had sustained the prelate was unequivocal, “God is on our side!” Moderator Fonki assured his hearers that, the faithfulness of their God will not cease. “The PCC has come to stay. No power of darkness shall prevail. Praise God! The church is indestructible and we can never fail and we will keep standing to the end”, he made known.
Elections into the PCC’s top leadership will take place on November 18. Following a shortlisting of candidates to two names each for Moderator and Synod Clerk by the Synod Committee on November 16.
The Revs Miki Hans Abia and Njongai Polycarp earned 104 and 51 points respectively. While Rev Numfor Godwin fell off with no recorded vote for his nomination for moderator. Similarly, Rev Mokoko Thomas was kicked out with 16 votes, to 82 and 52 points of the Revs Ayuk Solomon and Mokoko Elive.
