The localities of Banten, Mborshia, and Yere in the Bui division of the North West region of Cameroon were visited by elements of the Rapid Intervention Battalion, BIR on the Weekend of June 25-26, 2022.
Reports on the ground have it that the armed separatist fighters were ambushed in a makeshift house they had built in one of the forests in Yelum.
After gun battles, five separatists were shot dead and others escaped, a military source said.
Eight people were taken away by BIR elements but their families have not heard from them. Among them are seven men and one woman.
Some 3 assault rifles, 3 rocket launchers, 7 guns, ammunition, and improvised explosives among many other items were taken by the army.

Other sources say only two fighters were killed while the other victims were civilians, “The military entered Amba camp at Yelum took those guns, after killing one fighter injured another. They place these guns on these innocent civilians before executing them.” A source said.
Sources say charms, marijuana, t-shirts, and flags belonging to the armed group called ADF were also taken and immediately destroyed.
They left after burning down the fighters’ temporary home it is expected that more raids will follow in the days ahead as a result of information that will be extracted from the fighters who were taken alive a military source told CNA.
Military targets girlfriends of Separatist fighters
Sources told CNA that some of the separatists were tracked using their girlfriends and contacts they made with them. It was also revealed that the fighters had girlfriends around the university community in Bambili, outskirts of Bamenda where five were on rader, but had escaped before the arrival of government forces.
“They use these girlfriends to penetrate within the popualtion and go unnoticed, that is why you keep seeing Bambili being a notorious zone for the terrorists coming from Ngoketunjia and Bui” a security source said, adding that they had gotten five names with two having affairs with selfstyled general “die man”, Esther Nkwenti and Joy Nkongho Enow and others like Nicole Nfor Mburli, Wanishi Eunice Chifu and Fomenky Rose, all on the run.
It remains unclear if these women are a broader part of the seperatist activties or just being used for the endsmeet of the fighters.
