Glencore gate: Company pleads guilty to bribery, Akere Muna says actions against SNH, SONARA now

Commodity trading company, Glencore on Tuesday, June 21, 2022, pleaded guilty to bribing Cameroons National Oil Refining Company, SONARA, and Petroleum Depot, SNH.

Glencore pleaded guilty to seven counts of corruption after admitting that it paid, SONARA and SNH the sum of 10.532.712 Euros, equivalent to about FCFA 7 billion.

The court’s decision will be known on November 2, 2022.

Former Transparency International President, Barrister Akere Muna, has urged the Cameroon government to probe and sanction officials who received the bribe from Glencore during the time of the activity.

Since the alarm was raised, the Biya regime has not made a statement to that effect. But the General Manager of SNH, Adolphe Moudiki said he is not aware of any bribery within his company.

The former General Manager of SONARA, Charles Metouck who is currently in jail for mismanagement, said he never traded such deals with Glencore.

Who is therefore guilty?

Barrister Akere Muna has insisted saying, “Enough is Enough”, the government needs to act now with this glaring confirmation from Glencore.
