Gendarme, two fulanis, three villagers die in fresh Wum clashes

At least five persons were confirmed dead in Wum subdivision, Menchum division, in the North West region, in fresh clashes between Fulani settlers and natives from Aghem.

Reports say two Fulanis and a government force were found dead in Zonghofu village on Tuesday, November 29, 2022, triggering the revenge.

Mua Sih, a young man who left the Wum hospital after watching over his wife, was beckoned by government forces to lead them to the site of the incident. But he was brutally murdered by angry Fulanis. A source told CNA that when they reached an area where the military vehicle could not cross, he abandoned the forces but was killed on his way to the village.

Other victims, father of six, Dze David also known as Living Stone of Zonghofu village, was killed at his farm in Itsei-Zonghofu, a palm wine tapper, Simon Muasughu, was killed at his raffia bush.

Another civilian, Kum Ngu of Zalatesang village is now battling between life and death from knife wounds.

The invading Fulanis also set two houses on fire before leaving.

The killers of the Fulanis are not known but such acts have always had a devastating effect on the villagers. A source that requested not to be named said the Gendarme officer was killed in clashes as they went to intervene. Clashes of such nature have been reoccurring in Wum, making it a dire straight situation.

Several villagers from Weindughu and Magha are now seeking refuge in Naikom village.
