Opinion: Notes Rt. Rev Miki Hans should copy from Bishop Bibi

By Nchendzengang Tatah
Four years have gone by to the amusement of many christians of the Diocese of Buea under the leadership of Bishop Michael Bibi. After he gained canonical possession on February 25, 2021, he succeeded Bishop Immanuel Bushu who moved into retirement.
The complexity of the Diocese of Buea to be in a strategic socio-economic and political environment had raised several questions if the new Holy See established leadership will meet expectations. In these years, probably the only time the Diocese of Buea shot into public attention for the wrong reason was the case between Bishop Bibi and Father George Nkeze over the Catholic University Institute of Buea, CUIB.
Although that issue still takes twists till this day, soon to be inducted Presbyterian Church in Cameroon (PCC) Moderator, Miki Hans Abia may have some good notes to copy from the local ordinary of Buea.
Firstly, the humanitarian and empathetic face of Bishop Michael Bibi is worth emulation. The prelate has been spotted in enclaved areas around Fako Division which his Diocese now covers giving assurance to displaced, poor, needy and those on the periphery of social importance like bikers. It will seem the Bishop shares a special bond with the people of Bafia, Ikata and other remote areas in Muyuka.
Secondly, Bishop Bibi’s fostering of evangelisation through a personal touch. The Monday teachings of Most Rev. Michael Bibi in parishes around the Diocese cannot go unnoticed. These teachings are made to reach a wider audience through the Diocese’s radio and television. They have served as a meeting point between ordinary christians and their bishop. It also has fostered the christian communities spiritual growth and dedication to the churches teaching. Clearly, the communication plan of the religious institution is meeting the needs of it’s intended receiver.
Moreso, one will quickly notice the Divine Mercy Co-Cathedral Molyko project which is a brainchild of the emeritus shepherd, Bushu. The dedication of the edifice took place to the delight of many christians who for years had hoped for it’s completion. In the PCC, the second phase of the Synod Office may need just the same continuity in vision for it’s completion.
Now, as we wish a happy anniversary to Bishop Michael Bibi we eagerly wait for a leadership as such from the PCC foreman, Rt. Rev. Miki Hans Abia. The clock ticks!
