Onlookers/christians question spirituality in PCC under Fonki

Some christians and observers have expressed their conviction that personal interests have now overshadowed evangelism in the Presbyterian church under the leadership of Reverend Fonki Samuel.
The current moderator, Rev Fonki Samuel Forba is in his second mandate at the helm of the Presbyterian Church in Cameroon, PCC, after his re-election in 2019.
Many say his mandate has been marked by a lot of controversies with the most recent case being that of Presbyterian Church (PC) Kumba and PC Dibanda with the two institutions witnessing similar scenarios. Christians in PC Kumba outrightly rejected their pastor, Rev. Mary Wose Nduma in August 2022 and asked her to leave. In the same PC Kumba, Christians found items they believed were a proof of magical practices, blocking the entrance of the church. Another case was that of PC Dibanda mile 14 Buea that occurred last October 15, 2023. Christians of this congregation were seen in a viral video on social media chasing away their pastor, Rev Abogn Ezekiel.
All these have pushed some people to take to social media to express their disappointment.
“The current moderator might be a great transformer with wonderful infrastructural development but that should only come in as a compliment. If the church is not growing spiritually, then no other growth is anything because the peremptory essence of the church is spirituality. I miss the real Presbyterian Church pastors of the 80s & 90s. Majority of pastors today consider being a pastor as an employment and no longer a call,” one person commented on a post.
Another stated “I wasted my time being a member of PCC. Infact, I don’t recognize any of these organized groups. I was so disappointed by his re-election. I grew up in the church and today it’s something else”.
“The guy is more of a business man not a spiritual father. The financial demands are fast growing while spiritual demands are falling very low. Christians need to sit up”.
“Presbyterian mission started in my village of Besongabang, I was baptized in PC Fiango by late pastor Ebot, but today, I’m ashamed to identify as PCC, I’m now a Pentecostal Christian,” other comment reads.
The Presbyterian church has been at the centre of several debates due to the constant arguments within but the church authorities say they are doing all they can to restore lasting peace.
