Obscure NGO drags rights lawyer Alice Nkom to court for terrorism

Cameroonians are certainly hearing of this NGO for the first time as it came hitting hard against respected human rights lawyer, Barrister Alice Nkom.

The Observatoire du Développement Sociétal (ODS) filed a complaint against the Board chair of the Central African Network of Human Rights Defenders, Alice Nkom, for allegedly undermining state security, financing terrorism, and illicitly financing political parties.

This came on the heels of multiple summons against the Lawyer. The Administrative summons by the Senior Divisional Officer of Wouri in Littoral was made after she defied an injunction by reopening her office.

The final summons was made for Thursday, December 19, 2024, but she did not take part, urging the SDO to postpone to January 10, 2025.

But this took another turn when an NGO said they had dragged her to court. Those who know how government machinery works have been quick to say this has been done to put fears into the Lawyer so that she can stop resisting administrative orders.
