Obala: Cholera claims three lives
At least three persons are reported to have died from cholera while several other cases of the disease have been in the Nkolbikok locality of Obala, Lekie division of the center region.
Poor hygiene has been pointed as the main cause of this other outbreak. The population complains of scarcity of portable water which is causing them to rely on doubtful sources.
To prevent more cases, health officials in the locality are organizing a sensitization campaign.
According to the head of the Obala district hospital, Abomo Jacques, there is a need for quick action:
“We needed to act fast. Reason why are sensitizing the population on the dangers and on how to prevent cholera. We also plan on raising more awareness on the symptoms and steps to take when one is infected.”
Apart from the cholera outbreak, the population say there is rising insecurity and poor infrastructure in the area.
The Ministry of Public health, in its latest data published on October 20th says 12,952 cases and 272 deaths for cholera have been recorded in the country.
Manaouda Malachie insists that the population should go for more preventive measures in order to stop the spread of the disease.
