NWSW Regions: Cameroon Confident Special Status Will Work Magic

The Minister of External Relations, Lejeune Mbella Mbella spoke at the 76th session of the UN General Assembly in New York, the USA on Monday, September 27, 2021, assuring member states that with Special Status introduced in the North West and South West regions, things were returning to normalcy.

“We are continuing our efforts in our North-West and South-West regions to put an end to the socio-political tensions that are being fuelled by armed groups there. To this end, we have put in place an important mechanism”

These projects such as the Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration (DDR) program, Humanitarian assistance plan, Reconstruction plan for these two regions, National Commission for the Promotion of Bilingualism and Multiculturalism, Special Status that grants the two regions in question a regional assembly, the “House of Chiefs”, Regional Executive and a Pubic Independent Conciliator, are said to be the blueprint to solve the ongoing armed conflict, the Minister said.

They are all children of the Major National Dialogue that took place in Cameroon between September 30 to October 3, 2019.
