NW Governor reprimands House of Chief president for summoning Senator over cap

The Governor of the North West, Lele L’afrique Tchoffo reacting in an official letter to the President of the North West House of Chiefs, Fon Yakum Kevin said the institution had no power to question anyone about their dress code.
Lele Afrique’s correspondence on November 28 to the President of the Regional Assembly of which Fon Yakum is vice, stated, “The House of Chiefs is not a tribunal or an ombudsman and therefore has no authority whatsoever to either determine or question any individual on his/her dressing code, let alone a Senator of the Republic.”
Fon Yakum Kevin in his capacity as the President of the North West House of Chiefs issued a letter on November 25. To Senator Enwe Francis following information he got, of the Member of Senate wearing a traditional cap at a Yaounde event, whose use is “reserved”.
He summoned Senator Enwe to discuss the issue on December 3, 2024. Asking him to come along with the supposed cap. Governor Lele Afrique said the action was illegal and an abuse of power.
Fon Yakum Kevin is the Fon of Bambalang in Ngoketunjia, while Senator Enwe hails from Widikum in Momo Division, all in the North West Region.
