Norway Crime unit arrests ADF leader for alleged war crimes

The name of the suspect was not revealed but CNA is reliably informed that the Crime unit is talking about the commander-in-chief of the Ambazonia Defense Forces, Dr. Lucas Cho Lucas, 52.

He has been charged with incitement to commit a crime against humanity. Norwegian Police also revealed that the suspcect would appear before the Olso District Court on September 25, on the basis of the risk of evidence being lost.

“We are in an early phase of the investigation, and there are several investigative steps that remain,” says the prosecutor in the case, Anette Berger, who is the police prosecutor in the National Criminal Investigation Service.

The National Criminal Investigation Service believes that the accused has a central role in an ongoing armed conflict in Cameroon.

“Norway has an international responsibility to ensure that we are not a safe haven for people who commit war crimes or crimes against humanity. This is the first time a person in Norway has been charged with incitement to crimes against humanity,” says Berger.

Cameroon News Agency has reached out to the Norwegian Police to get details of the arrest and the next steps.

The Norwegian Police said the National Criminal Investigation Service (Kripos) has the national responsibility for investigating war crimes and crimes against humanity.

Recently, ADF fighters under Ayaba Cho Lucas have been invloved in burning of Taxis in Bamenda. They are have also been accused of committing crimes against humanity.

In july 2023, they claimed responsibility of publicly executing two civilians in Guzang, in the North West region.

Ayaba Cho Lucas has a German nationality.

Since 2016, mre than 6000 people have died in a conflict between Cameroon armed forces and Ambazonia Separatists, in war that started as teachers and lawyers strike.
