North West and South West women plead for schools to reopen

The English-speaking regions have been marred by ineffective school resumptions ever since separatists ordered school a boycott in 2017.
Six years after, more that 268 school children have been kidnapped, more than 70 schools attacked and over 700.000 children have become school dropouts.

Attacks in schools, parents and children seem not to end with the most recent being in PSS Mankon in the North West region on August 22nd 2022 with dormitories set ablaze. In GHS Mira on August 28th 2022 classrooms were burnt down by separatist fighters in their strategy to instill terror and thwart effective school resumption.

Women from these war torn regions under the Cameroon Women’s Peace Movement(CAWOPEM) and the South West North West Women’s Task Force (SNWOT) have urged government and separatist warlords to prioritize school reopening this new academic year.

“Refrain from toying with the education of kids for political differences, zero tolerance, accountability and severe punishment for any violation of the school environment.”

These mothers demand guns be silenced and dialogue be put forth in resolving the crisis which has increased unemployment, and illiteracy rate in the two English speaking regions.

Nonetheless, the government has expressed satisfaction over enrollment percentage of students and pupils in schools in the North West and South West regions during the 2021-2022 academic year.
