Nkongsamba: fire ravages several shops
Several shops have been reduced to ashes at the Nkongsamba central market in the Moungo division of the west region.
The incident reportedly occurred on Saturday October 8th, 2022.
According to witnesses, some shop owners were able to remove some articles from their shops:
“I was not around when the fire started. Some people who saw the fire from a distance emptied their shops but one of my shops was totally consumed by the fire.”
Eyewitnesses say it is thanks to the intervention of the firefighting brigade and the population that the damage could be contained.
According to the Mayor of Nkongsamba I, El hajj Bouba who arrived at the scene, the repeated incident is a call for concern:
“This makes us think differently, we pray to God to give us the strength to go through this difficult moment, we find this very strange in Nkongsamba.”
He says investigations are ongoing to determine the real cause of the fire. According to locals, it is exactly one month since a similar incident occurred at the Marche Mbei where some shops were reduced to flames.
The firefighters noted that they found a high-voltage line at the site which could have triggered the fire.
