Njombe-Penja: Fatal car collision kills three
Three persons have lost their lives in a ghastly car accident in the Njombe-Penja subdivision, Moungo division of the Littoral region. The crash involved a private vehicle and a motorbike.
Inhabitants were in shock after realizing that the victims were locals of the area who were on their way to the farm.
They were four on the bike which was violently knocked by a private car coming from the opposite direction.
Two died on the spot while the third person gave up the ghost in the hospital where the fourth victim is recovering from severe injuries.
The owner of the vehicle was equally injured. He has been blamed for the accident.
“It’s the private car that crossed the path of the bike. He was trying to avoid potholes” an eyewitness said.
“The persons on the bike were going to the farm to harvest paw-paw. When the accident occurred, when we arrived there some few minutes after, we saw two corpses lying on the ground already” the source disclosed.
Though overspeeding has been highlighted as the main cause of the accident, the bad state of the National Road Number 5 is said to have equally contributed to the tragic incident.
“If these potholes are not filled, there will always be deaths here” a local said.
