Nigerian Actress shares ordeal with statge 4 kidnaey diseases
Versatile Nigerian actress, Ufuoma McDermott has shared her ordeal with stage 4 kidney disease, stating she thought she was going to die.
“When I tell people I can afford to put on weight, I don’t want to die. I have little children. I had pushed my body, and I was borderline stage 4. Last year was a very trying time in my life when I thought I was going to die. I have battled chronic kidney disease for about 12 years now” McDermott said during a TV interview in Lagos.
Looking physically more overweight than most of her fans probably recall her, she said the disease progressed to stage 4 because she didn’t seek medical intervention promptly.
Stage 4 kidney disease means that your kidneys are moderately or severely damaged and are not working as well as they should filter waste from your blood. Waste products may build up in your blood and cause other health problems, such as high blood pressure, anaemia (insufficient red blood cells in your blood), and heart disease among others and symptoms often include feeling weak and tired, swelling in your arms or legs, urinating more or less often than normal, pain in your lower back, muscle cramps among others.
The actress shared that “as I was negotiating with the doctor about my life; she said I need you to go home, I need your blood pressure to drop, and take my medications”.
It is worth noting that another Nigerian actor, Amechi Muanagor died earlier this year from kidney disease as well; while Mr. Ibu later died following a leg amputation. Another actor, John Paul Odonwodo, popularly known as Junior Pope died by drowning earlier this year too.
