Ngouache landslide disaster site to be made touristic centre three years after
The information was revealed by the city mayor of Bafoussam Roger Tafam on Friday October 28 in a ceremony held in Bafoussam to remember victims of the 3-year-old tragic incident.
The site will host a touristic centre that will comprise of a space for leisure and recreation, a 10-hectare wooded area with tracks, a parking space for vehicles and public benches, space for restaurants and lodging facilities, a multipurpose hall that will host a book and media library, exhibition hall for craft products, a reception hall and modern toilets.
Also, a remembrance stone with names of victims written on it will be constructed at the site. External handball and tennis courts will also be made available for children and adults.
Victims of the tragic incident were remembered during the ceremony through an ecumenical church service that brought together leaders of the Roman catholic church, the Evangelical Church in Cameroon and the Muslim community. Survivors of their part were offered gifts comprising of foodstuffs, school equipments and financial assistance.
The survivors were also sensitized on the need to avoid settlement in risk zones.
The Ngouache landslide led to the death of over 40 people, with many houses swept away.
A total of 141 families were affected by the landslide.
