Nearly 300 workers on the government’s payroll have been dismissed due to absenteeism, according to Public Service Minister, Joseph Le, as a result of the physical Head count of state workers. An operation which brings the total number of state workers fired to 4,324 since it was launched in 2018 by the Government.
The initiative was aimed at combating chronic absenteeism and cleaning up the state’s payroll.
“These sanctions were imposed after a thorough administrative process, in accordance with the provisions of the decrees governing the general status of the public service,” said Minister Le in a statement.
He also emphasized that the initiative is in line with the directives of President Paul Biya and under the authority of the Prime Minister. Lists of affected civil servants are available on the Ministry of Public Service and Administrative Reform (Minfopra) website. State workers who believe they have been unjustly sanctioned may appeal to the relevant services of the ministry, either by requesting physically or electronically.
The recent dismissals follow the termination of 1,172 state employees’ contracts three months ago.
A circular signed by President Paul Biya on October 23, 2024, indicated that this process will conclude in 2025, with the removal of public officials identified as not working regularly.
