NCC warns media organs about inappropriate debates, guests on programs

By Nambu Bernadette Franka

The National Communication Council, NCC, has sent a message of warning to media owners, hosts of talk shows, and interactive programs. They say sanctions will be meted out to anyone who brings up inappropriate, discourteous, despicable, indecent, and aggressive behavior and statements during their interactive programs.

According to the press release, media professionals and especially hosts of these programs will be held accountable for the behaviors and statements of their guests.

“The National Communication Council reminds these media practitioners to choose their panelists wisely and to ensure a better moderation of their programs in order to avert the spread of infamous verbal jousts and uncivil behavior, which are becoming increasingly popular in audiovisual content and which clearly are media excesses and a serious infringement on public order,” the press release read.

It went further to state that, “The Council following this untimely warning, shall have no other option but apply the appropriate sections provided for by the laws in force to any offending professionals, programs or media, where necessary,”.
