Multipurpose Community Telecentres and the Digital AccessPoints staff to begin protest October 16
Workers of the Multipurpose Community Telecentres and Digital Access Points have said they will protest in front of the Prime Minister’s Office and that of the Minister of Post and Telecommunication, in Yaounde.
The protest on October 16, is aimed at pushing the state to pay their salary arrears for the past 9 years. In a document ( obtained by CNA) signed by representatives from 13 structures, the workers decry the government’s inaction on their plights despite several attempts to settle the issue,
“We have at several times been called to compile documents for payment, since 2021, we were asked to do a census and project how each person was owed or expecting as minimal projection through the regional delegations, and we have not been paid till now,” a section read.
The workers said they have been made laughing stock by their families as they cannot feed nor pay expenses, but are working for the government structure.
“We feel that amongst other alternative attempts and suggestions to get our salaries have technically been delayed and denied. We are not able to support our children and families to go to schools effectively as well as support healthcare like our fellow citizens in other sectors. We don’t know why we have not been paid, no matter our cries and plea over eight years or we don’t have a right to salary. Is the labor code not applicable to us.”
