Molyko Landlady tells students to vacate premises 2 months to contract expiration
More than 30 students in the hostel are concerned with this decision.
The E. Benedicta hostel is located around St Therese primary school in the student community, Molyko, Buea.
The students say they are surprised by the attitude of the caretaker, Mbwoge Levin acting upon instructions from the Landlady.
They each received a letter terminating their contract, citing renovation. “Please take out every property of yours as you travel during this holiday, because during the renovation light and water will be disconnected and I will not be responsible for any missing properties and make sure to hand over the keys to the room you are to the Cite Manager Mr Levin” the Landlady , Mama Ndep Benedicta Epie said.
The enants feel that the landlady is playing a fast game by sending them all out to increase the rents. But this will be unjust because they have legal two months left and have nowhere to keep their belongings, another said.
“It’s so funny that he want everybody in the hostel to pack out before coming back after two months. Where are we going to keep our things for the two months. Our rooms are very clean and if there is any serious renovation to be done it should be outside. If there is any renovation to be done inside it should be minor things which are ready and available day he wants to do the renovation” a student lamented.
The students have paid FCFA 400, 000 and expect to renew their lease next academic year with some having no plans of travelling this holiday.
“Then the new agreement was that the 400,000frs will be for 12 months instead of the 10 months we used to pay. Before we used to pay holiday rent separately from the normal rent. But the caretaker decided to increase from FCFA 380, 000 to FCFA 400,000 then added 2 months. Hence, there is no more holiday rent. Our problem is not even the two months legal rent. The problem is where are we going to keep our things for that two months and some of us don’t even go for holiday because where we come from the crisis has affected some of us.”
