The Minister of Youth Affairs and Civic Education, Mounouna Foutsou called off inauguration rituals of the Tiko Multipurpose Youth Centre during an event January 31 on the premises due to the dilapidated nature of the structure.
The Tiko Multipurpose Youth Centre, is a four office, one conference hall and two workshop spaces building. It was described not to be in it’s best state. The paints on the outside walls had been destroyed by water.
The Youth Affairs Minister, in an unprecedented move after the Tiko Mayor had offered his welcome word, took to the platform. He dedicated the moment to reflect on the role the youths can play in nation building. Emphasizing on volunteerism, he established that the structure could receive a new coat of paint if each one could offer their commitment and service to the community.
Minister Mounouna, further compared the cost of the event to the cost needed to give the building a face lift. On this background, he called the ceremony off informing the local authorities to get to work and present the structure by February 2, when he leaves the region.
Earlier, Tiko Mayor Chief Peter Mesoso III said the allocated 60 million francs for the project was inadequate. He called on the ministry to hasten the coming of the second phase which will bring about a fence, play ground and equipment to the structure.
To note, the first phase of the Tiko Multipurpose Youth Centre which was supposed to be inaugurated had no equipment in it.
