Minister of sports responds to Fecafoot’s  disapproval of new coach

By Biwah Bryan

In response to a letter from the Cameroon Football Federation opposing the recruitment of new staff for the Cameroon national team, the minister of sports has hit back with a strongly worded letter.

In the correspondence, the minister highlighted the exorbitant salary demands of the three coaches proposed by Fecafoot, ranging between 1 to 1.5 billion per year excluding bonuses.

Additionally, the minister noted that the Ministry of Sports and Physical Education (MINSEP) and FECAFOOT provide the state with the freedom to recruit and provide coaches for its national teams.

Furthermore, the Minister of Sports reminded FECAFOOT that President Paul Biya ordered corrective action to be taken after the team’s dismal performance, particularly at the recent African Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire.

The minister further explained that, after letting go of the previous technical team led by Rigobert Song, the selection process for the new staff began with a focus on those who had expert qualifications, performance capabilities, knowledge of Cameroonian football, and were willing to work independently.
