Minister calls for discipline as schools reopen in September

Yaoundé, Cameroon( CNA) The Minister of Secondary Education, Pauline Nalova Lyonga, has urged school officials to address the alarming issues of drug consumption and violence that plagued the previous academic year.

Speaking at the launch of the 2024-2025 school year, the minister emphasized the importance of discipline and responsible behavior among students and teachers. She called for strict enforcement of school rules while cautioning against corporal punishment.

The minister also highlighted the need to adhere to government regulations, particularly regarding textbook use. She warned that officials who violate these regulations will face severe consequences.

Among the key innovations for the new school year are the expansion of distance learning programs and the revision of certain syllabi, including the introduction of new subjects in technical education.

The 2024-2025 school year is scheduled to begin on September 9, 2024, and conclude on July 31, 2025.
