MinFi says imported used cars must be registered, stamped in Cameroon
The Minister of Finance, Louis Paul Motaze warned that severe sanctions will be meted on those dealing with non-registered and stamp-imported used vehicles to Cameroon. The Minister urged importers to declare and pay the charges in the Cameroon Customs information system (Camcis).
The information contained in a release dated January 2, 2024, also mentioned that customs duties and taxes should also be paid in the Customs Liquidation Bulletin.
According to Mr Motaze, this administrative measure aims at facilitating procedures and improving the service provided to users, thereby hindering any possibility for a new tax to be introduced which may increase the tax burden on taxpayers.
A document from the General Directorate of Taxation indicates that any transaction involving a used vehicle gives rise to the collection of taxes and duties such as registration fees calculated at the rate of 5% on the value of the vehicle acquired; the stamp duty on the registration document, with a price set at 3,000 FCFA per Cheval Vapeur.
