MINDEF says military winning war against Boko Haram

Cameroon’s Minister of Defense, Joseph Beti Assomo has said that serenity reigns in a majority of divisions of the Far North region which have several times been attacked by Boko Haram terrorists for many years now. According to him, the Cameroonian defense and security forces have successfully carried out a counter-attack against the Boko Haram insurgents and have successfully put an end to their activities in a greater part of the region.

During a security evaluation meeting at the 4th Joint Military Region in Maroua, the military strongman underlined that Mayo-Sava and Logone and Chari remain the divisions still experiencing Boko Haram attacks:

“Calm has returned in many divisions here in the Far North region. Only Mayo-Sava and Logone and Chari divisions are still experiencing hostilities from the state enemy, Boko Haram. Our defense and security forces are more determined to push back the enemies, protect lives and properties of our fellow citizens and protect the territorial boundaries of this great region.”

While in the Far North region for the security evaluation meeting, it was an occasion for him to pay a visit to wounded and hospitalized soldiers in the hospital of the Fourth Joint Military Region with messages of encouragement.

While there, the Minister was told that soldiers occupy only 5.5% of the hospital beds:

“These are soldiers who were injured over seven months ago. For a period of six months now we have not received any new wounded soldier in operations. This is to say the military strategies against the enemies are working” a military official and staff of the 4th Joint Military Region said.

He further explained that the local population are the ones who benefit more (80%) of the hospital services.

Minister Joseph Beti Assomo encouraged and advised the defense and security forces not to relent effort in the fight against the Boko Haram insurgents as total victory is not far from them.
