MINAT suspends permission for administrative heads during year end festivities

An official communication of the Minister of Territorial Administration, MINAT, Paul Atanga Nji addressed to regional governors, suspended permission to be absent at duty post for heads of administrative districts. This is a means to maintain security during celebrations which characterise the end of year, he argued.

The fax message which CNA has seen, stamped “tres urgent” is dated December 4, 2024. The halt in grant of permission to these officials spans from December 10, 2024 to January 10, 2025.

Minister Atanga Nji further stated that, only he could give exceptional permission for leave or absence to the officials in this period. Collaborators of administrative heads were also commanded to the respect of the order.

Context of outing

The Yaounde instructions of the MINAT boss is at a peak season of various gatherings for cultural, political and religious reasons.

A similar instructions had been given by the Governor of the South West region prior to October 1st, a day featured by tensions in the North West and South West regions. A Divisional Officer was the victim of pirate attack in Idabato, his duty post.

Government communication had assured of his safe release. Yet, his family is still to reconnect with him over 65 days in captivity.

Lately, letters prohibiting certain gatherings have continued to surface on the social media. Believed to be moves to ensure public order and security.
