Mezam: SDF militants thank CPDM councillors for patronizing them
By Nukapuh P.
Since the night of Sunday 12 March when votes for the 2023 senatorial election were counted and made known across the country, some militants of the Social Democratic Front, SDF have been celebrating in Mezam, though CPDM still took the larger share of the votes.
Immediately after votes were counted at the Mezam polling stations in Bamenda, some SDF militants stormed the hall celebrating that they did not expect to have up to the number their party just recorded.
According to them, they were patronized by some councillors of the Cameroon People’s Democracy Movement, CPDM who voted SDF.
“The SDF in Mezam has scored 35 votes out of 28 expected, it’s victory to the party. Those who thought they had buried SDF have their eyes to cry with.”
Out of 237 votes cast at the 4 polling stations in Mezam, CPDM had 202, while SDF had 35, which is the highest recorded by the party in the elections.
“It means that SDF is on the ground working. It means that the SDF is in the hearts of people, even councillors of other political parties. We may loss this election generally, but the ideology of SDF is on the ground…”
After the election, list leader of SDF in the North West region, Vanigansen Mochiggle called on members of the party and the population at large to exercise patience and wait for official results from ELECAM. He added that he is satisfied with the organization and modalities put in place by Elections Cameroon in this year’s election.
“The stakeholders were all associated and that’s why I say it is transparent. At the end since we have participated, we will accept the results,” Vanigansen said.
Before going into the senatorial election in the North West region, SDF had just one council (Bamenda III) out of 34 councils in the region.
Militants of the party earlier accused CPDM of caging all other municipal and regional councillors in hotels a week before election, so that they of the SDF could not campaign efficiently.
