Menoua: Fight breaks out during funeral
The funeral of Maffo Nafack Pauline Epse NKUETEDJI in the Mezing neighborhood in Fongo-Ndeng village-Menoua Division of the West region was transformed into a violent fight ring over chieftaincy issues.
The fight generated when a delegation headed by the Chief of Ntseu village arrived the deceased’s compound. By the time the Chief arrived, the seat reserved for him was already occupied by another person who presented himself as the Chief of Mezing village and his claim was supported by his brothers.
Asked to liberate the seat, the supposed chief of Ntseu refused threatening to harm anyone who dared challenge his authority.
His resistance resulted to a fight between the two factions who used different dangerous objects against each other. Several persons were injured with enormous destruction caused.
According to the supposed Chief of Mezing, the Chief of Ntseu village was exercising authority out of his area of command. He claims the Chief of Ntseu village tried to stop him from burying his mother.
It took quite some time before security elements could contain the fight for the funeral to continue.
