Mbonge: One dies in separatist, military shootout
One male teenager whose name wasn’t immediately gotten, was confirmed dead, following a separatist-military gun battle in Banga Bakundu, Mbonge Subdivision of the South West Region.
The close to-10-minute gun exchange on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, was the second in less than a week within the same locality.
Two persons were confirmed dead during the first battle last Friday, February 16, 2024.
Mbonge Subdivision has continued to witness rising insecurity, as separatist fighters intensify their activities.
On Wednesday, vehicles leaving Kumba to Buea and those from Buea to Kumba were forced to park by the roadside to allow the tension to calm before embarking on their journey.
A passenger said in an amateur video, “If you are using this road, just stay where you are because it is terrible right here in Mbonge”
The people of Kombone Bakundu have recently faced tough times with the self-styled general Black Bat.
More than 15 individuals from the locality, have so far been kidnapped by Black Bat since January, CNA learned.
There’s however constant military presence and patrolling in some communities in the Mbonge Subdivision.
