Maumu – Buea:Inclusive list of quarter heads installed

Fifteen persons were installed as quarter heads and members of the traditional council of Maumu, a 3rd class chiefdom in the Buea Subdivision on May 31, 2025. Amongst them were non-indigenous persons who were also raised by HRM Mulobe Embola IV to the coveted community roles.
Chief Embola, at the traditional investiture, said the village council featured indigenes of Ngie and Ngwo who, like those of Maumu origin who had been installed, showed an unparalleled sense of integrity and development orientation. He sustained that those who were chosen had been resident in the community for a long time and their integration into the traditional institutions was a show of living together, national integration and camaraderie.
“It is good to bring all these different tribes into the council because Maumu is largely inhabited by natives from other tribes. So we integrated them to the function of quarter head and traditional council members to guarantee good governance,” he stated.
The call for the fifteen who were empowered to carry out the dual role of quarter heads and traditional council members was to assist the monarch in the rapid development of the chiefdom – one of the most hit communities in the Buea Subdivision by an eight-year-long armed conflict in the North West and South West regions.
The Maumu chief – who was designated in 2024 and subsequently recognized by perfectoral order number 45/AP/G.37/C83/1AP – reaffirmed his commitment to good traditional governance and community development. He lamented at individual sagas plaguing the community which he hoped to eventually lay to rest.
Present at the installation amongst elites and community members was Chief Daniel Moki, the traditional ruler of Liwula-Malale.
