Ivorian court slams comedian 12 months in jail for defamation

A court in Ivory Coast has sentenced a comedian, Florent Kouakou Amani, popularly known as Observateur Ébène, to 12 months imprisonment.

The judgment on Tuesday was pronounced against the comedian who was found guilty of insulting and describing a TV presenter, Marie Paul Adje, a prostitute.

Though Observateur Ébène, has pleaded for pardon after the viral video, the courts had the last say.

Six out of the 12 months will be under strict supervised hard labor. He was also asked to pay a fine of FCFA 5 million as damages.
