Maroua: Youths demand the liberation of Vamoulke and Co.

Members of a youth association known as “Confederation des Associations des Jeunes Solidaires du Cameroun” have written to the Senior Divisional Officer (SDO) of Maroua I asking for authorization to organize a peaceful demonstration.

The group say their aim is to thank President Paul Biya for the liberation of former water and energy minister Basile Atangana Kouna and ask for the liberations of Amadou Vamoulke, Iya Mohammed and Marafa Hamidou Yaya.

The said demonstration if approved, will take place on August 12th 2022 from 10 AM to midday. The president of this youth organization is reported to have told various bloggers that he has received numerous death threats ever since the document was made public.

Amadou Vamoulke is the former Director General of the state owned channel Cameroon Radio Televison (CRTV) and was incarcerated in 2016 after he was accused of embezzlement. Iya Mohammed on his part is the former boss of the cotton company, SODECOTON and also former Cameroon Football Federation President. He was also sent to prison for embezzlement. Marafa Hamidou on his part is a former minister and was sentenced to 25 years in prison on corruption charges.
