Maroua I Councilors want mayor to resign.
A majority of the Maroua I municipal councilors have demand the resignation of the current Mayor Hamadou Hamidou over poor leadership.
23 out of the 34 municipal councilors made this decision known at the end of last week to the Senior Divisional Officer (SDO) for the Diamaré Division in the Far North region.
This is the second time this set of municipal councilors are demanding that the mayor leaves the council: the first time being on July 8th 2022.
This request has however been rejected by the Diamare SDO, Jean Marc Ekoa Mbarga who says this request does not comply with the legal requirements or procedures relating to dismissal.
It should be recalled that Hamadou Hamidou was re-elected as mayor on October 30 2020 with 17 votes, one invalid ballot and one abstention leaving his challenger Youssouf Issa Balarabe defeated. His four deputies and 10 advisers were also re-elected. This election, postponed about three times, took place in an extremely tense atmosphere.
The looser, Balarabé accused the SDO for Diamaré Division of having threatened them and of being biased.
