MAMFE, May 20 – The Senior Divisional Officer (SDO) for Manyu Division, Awounfac Alienou Yves Bertrand, has unequivocally denounced the summary execution of seven security personnel by separatist fighters in Manyu Division. The condemnation was issued today, May 20th, at the ceremonial grounds in Mamfe, following the National Unity Day celebrations.
Addressing inquiries regarding the security landscape within his jurisdiction, the civil administrator asserted that the recent incidents in Eyumojock and Akwaya subdivisions have not undermined the resolve of the defense and security forces. According to the SDO, the security forces in Manyu Division remain resolute in ensuring the safety and security of the region.
Commenting on the substantial turnout of local residents for the National Unity Day festivities in Mamfe, Awounfac Alienou Yves Bertrand emphasized his satisfaction with the community’s attendance. He underscored the presence of students, political figures, cultural organizations, and social groups at the ceremonial grounds as a testament to Manyu’s integral role within a unified Cameroon. In anticipation of today’s National Unity Day celebrations, Mamfe residents had previously signaled their intent to participate in the festivities with a unity walk, spearheaded by the SDO.
This year’s observance of National Unity Day in Manyu occurred amidst the backdrop of the recent tragic loss of seven security personnel in separate attacks in Eyumojock and Akwaya subdivisions. Despite these challenges, residents demonstrated resilience by commemorating the 52nd edition of Cameroon’s National Unity Day.
Under the theme “Army and Nation, Together for a United, Peaceful, and Prosperous Cameroon,” the Mamfe celebrations lasted nearly four hours, featuring both military and civilian march pasts. Additionally, the event was enriched by cultural presentations from various groups representing Manyu Division, Lebialem Division, the North West region, and neighboring Nigeria.
