Mamfe Mayor begs separatist fighters to release five abducted Priests
The Mayor of Mamfe in the Manyu Division of the South West region, Robertson Tabenchong has begged the separatist fighters who abducted five priests, a Reverend Sister and two christians to release them:
” I continue to plead with my brothers to let the Rev. Fathers go. The have nothing to do with the present situation. I am just pleading with them. They have been in the bush for over two weeks. Allow them go. Please” he implored.
The Mamfe municipal authority was speaking as he visited the burnt St. Mary Catholic Church in Nchang village found in his municipality to take stock of the situation. He expressed regret and qualified the burning down of the church as an atrocious act:
“The house of God in this state! I feel so bad. We are here to take stock of the damages and also to encourage the christian family not to be disappointed because we are doing everything possible to that the priests, Rev Sister and the christians abducted can be released” the Mayor assured.
Some christians living around the church premises said during the Mayor’s visit that they are still in tears and panic stricken over the abduction of the Priests and christians.
Mayor Robertson Tabenchong who visited the ruined church for the first time indicated that he has not ignored the incident and is working with his collaborators to address it. He added that the population should believe in the administration.
Meantime, the church premise has now been colonized by wild vegetation considering that people stopped going there ever since the September 16 2022 attack.
