Littoral: 100 suspected hoodlums arrested in anti-crime operation
11 women are among the close to 100 people who have been arrested by gendarme officers in the Nkam division of the Littoral region in the course of an operation aimed at eradicating criminality.
The operation that has been ongoing for several days now targets the PK 20, Pk 21, rural and suburban areas. The close to 100 suspects were identified and questioned for hours. Several items including deadly weapons, 35 motorbikes, television sets and other electronic gadgets were recovered during the operation. They were only handed back to the owners upon presentation of documents and purchase receipts.
“Our operation continues as instructed by our hierarchy, with particular focus here in Nkam rural. We want to make sure all the bad grains are separated from the good ones,” Lieutenant Colonel Abba, deputy commander of the Littoral gendarmerie legion explained. “The population reported they are assaulted by criminals daily and at any time of the day, depriving them of their belongings,” he added.
“In some cases they inflict injuries on their victims and some even die,” an inhabitant in one of the targeted neighborhoods narrated.
The operation has been aclaimed by some locals who say they have been victims of burglary and other attacks.
