Farmers in Fako have received farm inputs from the Cameroon Cultural and Development Association, CAMCUDA to improve their agricultural productivity.
The inputs comprising trucks, wheelbarrows, spraying cans, watering cans, electric generators, cassava mills, fertilisers amongst others amounting to over CFA 10 million were distributed on June 6 at the esplanade of the Limbe 1 Divisional Officer’s office.
In its ninth edition, the donation according to organisers is intended to assist farmers in cutting down costs and improving output to raise their incomes. A gesture which alleviates the plight of rural farmers affected by the ongoing violent conflict in the South West and North West regions, backed by several partners including the South West Development Authorities, SOWEDA.
Nation’s heroes
Meveo Cultural and Development Association (MEVCUDA) now CAMCUDA prides to have empowered over 10,000 farmers. Whom the association’s coordinator, Chief Ndiko Fonderson describes as the true heroes of the nation.
The CAMCUDA coordinator while handing the consignment assured donors that their team will follow up with beneficiaries to ensure the proper use of the equipment being given out. Moreover, Chief Ndiko encouraged farmers to make judicious use of the input as groups or individuals as the case may be.
The input was shared amongst farming groups and individual farmers who expressed gratitude while outlining more needs. The president of Meveo farmers, Takor James hailed the initiative to have benefited some 500 farmers in the community. Nonetheless, he appealed for partners especially SOWEDA to look into the road situation of Meveo and strengthen combine efforts of the farmers and chiefs in rehabilitating stretches.
For her part, Fon Dzewong Nice Marie the first assistant Divisional Officer for Limbe 1 stated that, the exercise was profound and will have a chain impact by boosting development through agriculture. She hailed the CAMCUDA’s efforts over the years and congratulated the farmers who had made the initiative worthwhile despite impose challenges of infrastructure and finance.
