Limbe: over 38 couples legalize unions in joint ceremony
A ceremony organized by the Limbe I council has seen over 38 couples quit cohabiting, to conform with the law.
The event which was organized as part of activities ahead of the international day for women’s rights to be observed on March 8, involved partners, some of whom had been living together for over a decade. One of the couples had spent 30 years together before heeding the call recently made by the Limbe I council.
The Mayor of the municipality, Mbwaye Eposi Florence, said this will help protect women’s rights and equally encourage others.
“I do believe that as we have done this, they themselves are a message to those who are still to legalize their unions,” the Mayor said.
The couples were excited as they officially declared their commitment to each other, in front of their family members and friends.
“I really thank God for his grace,” one of the newly weds said.
“We are very grateful today because we happened to be one of those introduced to the marriage ceremony for a certificate,” another participant added, stating that “the certificate indicates our togetherness”.
This is not the first time such events are organized in Limbe and the country at large.
