Labor minister warns Cameroonians not to protest for Kamto

The Minister of Labor and Social Security, Gregoire Owona hinted on his Facebook page that the main opposition leader, Maurice Kamto, could be kick out of the 2025 presidential race if he represents his main party, Cameroon Rennaisance Movement or the party of the ally, FCC, of Hon. Jean Michel Nintcheu.

“Maurice Kamto is well aware that if the MRC or FCC puts him forward, his candidacy might not be validated, despite his recent recruitment of resigning SDF elected officials.”

He furtehr warned that should Kamto fail to represent another party, other than the above, he maybe bidding farewell to the race, ” He may well exclude himself, much like in 2020 at the last minute. We all know what being elected from a party means. We also know what a binding mandate means, even without being a legal expert. He knows perfectly well what he needs to do if he wants his candidacy validated: parties are waiting for that. It will be simple and clear, and we’ll be happy to have him opposite us to show him what he doesn’t want to see,” Owona said.

The deputy coomunications director of the ruling Cameroon People Movement Democratic, CPDM, party, warned that in the event that Maurice Kamto is declared not eligible, Cameroonians should not protest.

“The Cameroonian people won’t take to the streets because a candidacy has been legally rejected: they’ll know you brought it on yourselves! You’ve prepared it well by stirring up all these debates you’re maintaining!”

In 2020, Kamto boycotted the parliamentary and municipal elections forcing bigwigs to resign. His boycott meant that it would be hard for him to be accpeted as candidate under his party because he lacks an elected official.

However, Kamto has the chance to create allaince with other parties for his candidacy to be accepted.
