Kumbo: Young Man Killed by Stray Bullet in Amba-Military Crossfire

A young man in his late 20s has been shot dead in Kumbo during crossfire between soldiers and Amba Boys. We learned that the young man, whose name we got only as Generic, was shot at Mbveh, the commercial heart of Kumbo.

Mbveh has also become a flashpoint of clashes between the military and Amba Boys. CNA learned that Generic who had been living in Yaounde, was sent brought back home to Kumbo one year ago, by his family after he began having mental issues.

“The military found him wandering around some time ago and when they searched him, they found different kinds of contraband drugs in his pockets” a friend of his told CNA. “However, the local population pleaded with the military that he was not mentally stable but the military said he was lying, and so they said he would always go with the military everywhere they go so as to ensure that he doesn’t get into any mischief” Generic’s friend explained.

Amba Boys often found him wondering around when he got into trouble but they never harmed him. Same with the military, since both sides knew of his mental health problems.

Yesterday turned out to be an unfortunate day for Generic whom the military had forced to be moving around with them. Even though Generic had been given a bullet-proof jacket by the soldiers, a bullet struck him in the abdomen. He was killed instantly.

CNA learned from our source that after he was shot, the military who had been moving with him, abandoned his corpse at Mbveh and it was Amba Boys who later came and took it for burial in Kikaikom on the outskirts of Kumbo.
