Kumbo: One Soldier Dies, Others Wounded in Amba IED Attack

Two soldiers have been severely wounded, and one was confirmed dead in Kumbo. This came after an improvised explosive device (IED) planted by local separatist fighters exploded on Sunday in an area called Corner Water in Kumbo. According to a source who spoke to CNA on strict anonymity, two of the wounded soldiers were taken to a hospital in the town. At the same time, a military helicopter came to the scene and flew the body of the deceased victim to Bamenda.
“The helicopter flew in and out two times, and there were serious gunshots the whole of Sunday,” our source said. “Soldiers were firing guns around Kumbo Baptist Church as Christians were in church for Sunday Service, and they even stopped us as we were going to our own church and searched all of us. Some other people had bruises after being well beaten by the soldiers,” he clarified.
Our source also explained that the soldiers were from the regular army and not BIR. They had arrived in Kumbo on Friday after their deployment. They were heading to a part of town called Mbveh when they stepped on the IED, which was then detonated, leading them to respond with gunshots and unchecked brutality on any civilians they came across.

CNA got from a security source that it was a 51BA pedestrian patrol who landed on an explosive.

“We’re hearing that there is blood all over the scene of the explosion at Corner Water and that some civilians were also hit by bullets,” our source stated. He added that due to the gunshots and the helicopters overhead, residents were on the floor of their houses throughout the night following the explosion and ensuing gunshots.
