Kumbo: Authorities inaugurate new military base to fight separatist atrocities.
A new base of the Rapid Battalion Intervention, BIR has been inaugurated in Kumbo, one of the fiefs of separatists in the Bui Division of the North West Region of Cameroon.
The inauguration was done by the Senior Divisional Officer for Bui, Gilbert Sunday Menyong at the start in the presence of Venatius Mborong and the General Coordinator of the Rapid Intervention Battalion, Colonel Francois Pelene.
“We want to tell the population of Kumbo that we are here to protect and serve them and not serve ourselves,” the Colonel said.
On his part, the SDO told reporters that “It comes at a moment when the population of Kumbo, and Bui, in general, are tired of atrocities committed by separatists. Their plan has failed”
Apart from a dormitory sick bay, the BIR camp will also possess water and electricity services that will boost the operating capacities of the 31st Rapid Intervention Battalion.
BUI Division is well known as one of the epicenters of separatist activities; the late chairman of the SDF party Ni John Fru Ndi and Cardinal Tumi were all kidnapped in Bui.
The post is also expected to serve neighboring Ndu subdivision, which is the nearest town after Nkum subdivision.
