Kumba: Gunmen kill businessman, spared pregnant wife

One person, Baiye Jackson Egbe, was shot dead by alleged separatist fighters in Kosala, Kumba 2 subdivision. The incident happened on Monday evening, April 29, 2024, shortly after being taken out of his home.
Speaking to the press on Tuesday, his pregnant wife said her husband, shortly after taking his bathe, went outside to verify what was happening as voices of people quarreling and debating were being heard.
She explained that they were ordered at gunpoint to move out, meeting others who had earlier been brought out from their homes.
“My neighbor and I were ordered to go back home by one of them. She continued…After about 15 minutes, one of my sons rushed home and informed me that Daddy had been shot. We rushed there and found my husband in a truck. We took him to the hospital, where he was confirmed dead 15 minutes later,” she revealed.
Many have been quick to point out that Baiye Jackson Egbe, was attacked because he was not resisting Monday’s civil disobedience lockdown imposed by the Separatists.

Those who were taken out by the armed Separatists said, “They asked those who have been selling on Monday”

These men spent almost an hour at Kosala 3 junction before government forces arrived to start exchanging gunshots.
Civil and municipal authorities of Meme have since late last year embarked on a mission to put an end to Monday’s ghost town in Kumba.
Several measures like the sealing of shops respecting ghost towns and the seizure of bikes with a bike pass, distributed only on Mondays, have so far been instituted.
Baiye Jackson Egbe, who comes from a royal family in the Manyu Division, is the latest victim to have fallen prey to the ongoing crisis in the Anglophone regions.
Civil and municipal authorities in Meme are yet to comment on this latest incident.

Sources had also said, there were other victims but CNA could not confirm at press time.
