Kamto held under hosue arrest, prevented from meeting supporters

The leader of the Cameroon Renaissance Movement, Maurice Kamto, has expressed regret that he could not meet his supporters at the party’s headquarters due to a house arrest.

The opposition party leader revealed that his party informed the Police that he was going to arrive in Cameroon on June 7.

“We wanted my arrival to be a Republican example with their guidance and security…that is why we informed them of my coming and gave them every detail…” Kamto said in a video shared from the location of his house arrest.

Two days before he arrived from Paris, France, where he organised a mega meeting with supporters and Cameroonians in the Diaspora, Police in the Littoral region’s capital, Douala, were given orders to block major axes leading to the Douala International Airport and the CRM headquarters in Deido.

On Sunday, hundreds of policemen blocked the axes and the entrance to the CRM office, demanding that supporters leave.

“Leave, Kamto will meet you where he will be lodged, not here…I hope you have listened to the instructions of the Regional Delegate of the Police,” A Police Officer said, pointing to the Police radio.

“This is something we find it difficult to understand because it is not an issue of public disorder, because we had given all the information to the security forces,” Kamto noted.

“What do you want”? Maurice Kamto asked.

“Those who want to create disorder in the town of Douala will bear the consequences, because we have nothing to do with it…If they want to create unnecessary tension, we are not part of it.”

While in Paris, Kamto had called on the Diaspora to come back home and take part in the political changes that will see the election of a new president in October 2025.
