Induction of Rev. Dr. Teke Ushers in New Era for CBC

By Hans Ngala

In a colorful ceremony at Nkwen Baptist Church on Saturday, outgoing CBC Executive President Dr. Nditemeh Charlemagne officially handed over to incoming Dr. Teke John.

Removing the green stole (the official CBC color) inscribed with the words ‘CBC EP’ which symbolizes the office of Executive President – Nditemeh hung the green stole over the shoulders of Teke. After prayers by a college of CBC pastors, this moment signified the official transfer of power from Nditemeh to Teke.

Dr. Teke’s presidency of the CBC marks the beginning of a new era for the CBC as outgoing EP, Dr. Nditemeh told CNA in a previous interview that he (not Teke) will continue appearing in court for the court cases brought against the Convention by some former CBC Christians. This is to ensure that Rev. Dr. Teke does not inherit problems that he was never responsible for and can focus on leading the affairs of the CBC smoothly.

CBC Christians have welcomed the changes in leadership at the CBC after the last few months of 2024 were marked by scandalous court appearances. Dr. Teke now has the noble task of reconfiguring the CBC, fixing her image, and especially focusing on effective strategies for preaching the Gospel, which is the CBC’s core mission.

Some CBC Christians are of the opinion that since the CBC is largely based in the NW and SW regions, with the SW having fewer numbers in the Convention, the office of Executive President should be rotatory between the NW and SW to ensure a balance of power between both provinces.
